Suga stresses results produced by SACO final report

On the occasion of the 20th anniversary of the approval of a final report issued by the Special Action Committee on Okinawa (SACO) on Dec. 2, 1996, Chief Cabinet Secretary Yoshihide Suga said at a press conference on Dec. 1: “Our utmost efforts have led to the return of five facilities covering an area of 845 hectares (in addition to the Aha Training Area, which was released from joint use with the U.S forces).” On the relocation of the Futenma Air Station and construction of an alternative facility in Henoko, Nago, he noted that “we will move forward with the understanding of the local people” and reiterated the government’s commitment to the plan.
