The committees on agriculture, forestry and fisheries of both Diet chambers on Tuesday adopted resolutions that demand keeping tariffs on important agricultural, forestry and fisheries items including pork and dairy products in the Economic Partnership Agreement (EPA) with the European Union (EU). The government is aiming for the conclusion of an agreement by the end of the year.

The resolutions caution the government against sacrificing Japan’s national interests in a rush to meet the schedule for conclusion at the expense of the contents of the agreement.
