SoftBank CEO Masayoshi Son chatted with Russian President Putin while standing after attending the “Japan-Russia Business Dialogue” held in Tokyo on Dec. 16. Putin with a smile talked with Son putting his arm around Son’s shoulder. Son told the press later, “I told the president that we will develop a new artificial intelligence and state-of-the-art technology.”

In June this year, Son met with Putin in Saint Petersburg when he visited there with other business leaders. In this meeting, Son proposed an idea of constructing an intercontinental power grid that will transmit electricity generated by hydroelectric power plants in Russia to Japan.

In the recent meeting with Putin, Son seems to have sounded Putin out about new economic cooperation with advanced technologies. Regarding investment in Russia, Son said, “I want to immediately begin studying [investments in Russia],” showing his eagerness.
