In a speech delivered at a symposium commemorating the 60th anniversary of Japan’s membership in the United Nations at the United Nations University in Shibuya, Tokyo on Dec. 19, Prime Minister Shinzo Abe reiterated his commitment to work for Japan’s permanent membership in the UN Security Council (UNSC). He said: “We would like to make utmost efforts for the realization of UN reforms and assume greater responsibilities as a permanent member of the UNSC.”
The crown prince and princess were also present at the symposium. In an earlier speech, the crown prince stated: “I hope that the Japanese people will contribute to the lofty goal of realizing world peace and prosperity.”
