Based on the government budget draft finalized on Dec. 22, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs is scheduled to receive 692.6 billion yen for FY2017, down 21.4 billion (3.0%) from the FY2016 initial budget.
Think tanks that perform research on Japan’s territory and history will receive 510 million yen for their studies, which are to be used for informational activities overseas.
The amount of 550 million will be earmarked for assisting Russia’s small and medium-size businesses for the purpose of supporting the eight-point economic cooperation plan agreed on with the Russian government.
In view of China’s maritime advancement, 8.2 billion yen will be allocated for providing developing nations with patrol boats, almost double the amount allocated in the FY2016 initial budget for the same purpose.
