The government has decided to set up a blue-ribbon panel to look into measures to promote the relocation of universities in Tokyo to regional areas. The aim is to rectify the overconcentration in Tokyo. The panel will conduct its study under Kozo Yamamoto, minister of state for overcoming population decline and vitalizing the local economy in Japan, and will put together concrete measures by this summer. There was talk of appointing Hiroya Masuda, former minister of internal affairs and communications, to the panel.
