Japan Business Federation (Keidanren) Chairman Sadayuki Sakakibara (chief senior adviser and chief senior counselor of Toray Industries, Inc.) is likely to head the committee to bring the 2025 Universal Exposition (World Expo) to Osaka. Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry Hiroshige Seko, Osaka Prefecture Governor Ichiro Matsui, and Kansai Economic Federation (Kankeiren) Chairman Shosuke Mori will formally offer Sakakibara the position in the near future, and the Keidanren chairman plans to accept. The aim in having the Keidanren chairman head the committee is to ensure nationwide corporate cooperation and to make the bid more attractive overseas. “All of Japan should become involved in this effort as a Japan’s growth strategy,” Chairman Sakakibara said at a press conference in Osaka City on Jan. 31.
