The Nuclear Regulation Authority (NRA) met with Japan Atomic Energy Agency (JAEA) President Toshio Kodama on Jan. 31 regarding the prototype high-breeder reactor Monju. The JAEA operates Monju. The NRA asked the JAEA to speed up the process of removing spent nuclear fuel, which the JAEA estimates will take five years and six months, because of the need to “eliminate risks as quickly as possible.”
