Governor Onaga greeted Secretary of State Tillerson in Washington

On Feb. 2, Okinawa Governor Takeshi Onaga gave a talk in Washington, D.C., in which he mentioned he had greeted Secretary of State Tillerson at a breakfast meeting that same day.

Regarding the plan to relocate the U.S. military’s Futenma Air Station (Ginowan City, Okinawa Prefecture) to Henoko in Nago City, the governor expressed his hope that the facility would be relocated outside of the prefecture or outside the country, saying, “I would like to see things change in a good direction under President Trump, whom people anticipate will bring change.”

According to Democratic Party Upper House member Yukihisa Fujita, who attended the meeting alongside the governor, the governor introduced himself to Secretary of State Tillerson and shook hands with him. Apparently, there was no time to for them to exchange views.
