Opposition lawmakers vow to form united front against proposed “conspiracy law”

Diet members of the Democratic Party, the Japanese Communist Party, the Liberal Party, and the Social Democratic Party held a meeting at the Diet on Feb. 16 to oppose the new “crime of preparation for terrorist attacks” to be penalized by amendments to the Law on Punishment of Organized Crimes. They pledged to form a united front to prevent the submission of the bill to the Diet.

The meeting attracted 250 participants (according to the organizers), and 14 opposition Diet members voiced their opinions and criticized the Abe administration. (Abridged)
