TOKYO – The Japanese and U.S. governments reached agreement at the Japan-U.S. Joint Committee on Feb. 23 on six facilities relating to the relocation of the naval hospital from Camp Kuwae to Camp Zukeran. They also agreed on the renovation of 10 aging housing units on Kadena Air Base.

The relocation of the naval hospital facilities was agreed upon in the SACO (Special Action Committee on Okinawa) final report of 1996. The new facilities will include the alcoholic rehabilitation center of the preventive medicine center (with a total floor area of 3,400 square meters), a sports facility (540 square meters), and a multipurpose facility (300 square meters).
