Kindai University’s research reactor to restart as early as next month

The nuclear reactor at Kindai University’s Atomic Energy Research Institute (Higashiosaka City) will restart as early as April, sources revealed. Operation of the reactor has been suspended since February 2014. The Nuclear Regulation Authority started the pre-operational inspection, which is the final procedure before restart, on March 9 and is expected to complete the inspection by March 17. Once restarted, the Kindai reactor will be the first research and education reactor to operate under the new safety standards put in place after the accident at the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant.
