Starting in the new school year, Japan Women’s University (Bunkyo Ward, Tokyo) will consider whether to accept transgender students who were born biologically male but have lived as female. In the past, women’s universities have taken the stance that biological gender is one of the criteria for entry. As awareness of the spectrum of gender identities spreads, however, women’s univerisities may open their doors to persons born biologically male. (Abridged)
