Tuesday evening’s Mainichi ran a Kyodo report saying that North Korea’s Deputy Ambassador to the United Nations Kim In Ryong told the press at the UN headquarters in New York on Monday that Pyongyang is prepared to respond to any military action initiated by the United States. Kim was quoted as saying that if the U.S. opts to take military action and makes a preemptive strike, the DPRK is ready to react to any type of war desired by the Americans. The envoy criticized the deployment of the USS Carl Vinson to waters near the Korean Peninsula as a reckless strategy for an invasion of North Korea. He also criticized a UNSC meeting on North Korea that will be hosted by the U.S. on April 28 by saying that Pyongyang firmly rejects it because the meeting will infringe on the sovereignty of the DPRK.
