On the evening of April 18, Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) Secretary General Toshihiro Nikai dined with Tokyo Governor Yuriko Koike at a Japanese restaurant in Tokyo. Former Prime Minister Junichiro Koizumi and former LDP Secretaries General Taku Yamasaki and Tsutomu Takebe were also present. Koizumi set up the dinner, and they exchanged views on the administration of Tokyo. Prime Minister Shinzo Abe was at the same restaurant and exchanged greetings with Koike. To the extent that the LDP and Koike will face off in the Tokyo Metropolitan Assembly election (on July 2), the dinner meeting will likely touch off speculation.
