Regarding the Japan-South Korea agreement on the comfort women issue, Moon Hee-sang, a South Korean parliamentarian who visited Japan as President Moon Jae-in’s special envoy, said on May 20, “We agreed to skillfully resolve the issue in a future-oriented fashion rather than to renegotiate the bilateral pact.” He was fielding questions from reporters at Gimpo International Airport upon his return from Japan.
“We clearly conveyed that most South Koreans cannot accept the agreement on an emotional level, and there was a comment (from the Japanese side) that can be interpreted as indicating that they can understand that,” Moon said.
