All broadcasters gave top play to reports that North Korea fired multiple surface-to-air missiles toward the Sea of Japan at about 6:18 a.m. today. NHK said the missiles flew 200 km before landing in the Sea of Japan. Chief Cabinet Secretary Suga told reporters this morning: “We have no indication that any missile fell within Japan’s territorial waters or EEZ. Our national security was not affected.” The networks said that according to the South Korean military’s analysis, North Korea is trying to demonstrate its technological capabilities to the world by launching various types of missiles.
