The Liberal Democratic Party and Komeito submitted a bill on gambling addiction prevention to the House of Representatives as Diet member-initiated legislation. However, it is reckoned that passage of the bill at the current Diet session will be difficult due to the tight schedule. The two parties will call on the opposition parties for their cooperation to enact the bill at the extraordinary Diet session this fall.
The bill requires pachinko parlors and operators of government-controlled gambling, such as horse races, to cooperate with gambling addiction prevention measures taken by the national and local governments .
This is in light of the government’s plan to submit implementing laws for the operation of integrated resorts (IR) with casinos at the extraordinary Diet session.
