HIROSHIMA (Jiji Press) — The Hiroshima municipal government said Wednesday that representatives from 82 countries and a delegation of the European Union will attend the peace memorial ceremony on Aug. 6, marking the 72nd anniversary of the U.S. atomic bombing of the western Japan city.
From the United Nations, Izumi Nakamitsu, the first Japanese female undersecretary-general and also the high representative for disarmament affairs, will attend the ceremony.
Ambassadors to Japan from 55 countries will also be present.
From nuclear weapons states, the ambassadors of Britain, India and Pakistan will join the ceremony.
France will send its next ambassador and Russia its consul-general. China and the United States have not replied to invitations.
