OPINION POLLS

Cabinet support rate among women in 40s and 50s reaches danger zone, Sankei-FNN poll

According to the opinion poll jointly conducted by the Sankei Shimbun and Fuji News Network (FNN) [on July 22–23], the support rate for the Shinzo Abe cabinet among women in their 40s and 50s has fallen below 30%, which is considered the “danger zone.” The Abe cabinet support rate tends to be higher among men and lower among women and higher among younger age groups and lower among older age groups. Although the support rate exceeded or was the same as the nonsupport rate in all age groups for both genders in the May poll, the results of the recent poll were very harsh. (Abridged)

[Polling methodology: The survey was conducted until the calculated number of responses was obtained by placing telephone calls on a random digit dialing (RDD) basis adjusted to the gender and age composition of each survey area. A total of 1,000 men and women, aged 18 and over, across the nation were surveyed. The survey was conducted on July 22–23, 2017.]
