Shinshu University adjunct professor Jin Mizuguchi and his team have developed technology that transforms virtually all [the organic material in] timber into gas, with an eye for use in biomass-fired power plants that use timber as fuel. In addition to efficiently extracting gas, the technology raises generators’ utilization rate. With the new technology, sticky tar is not produced, and so generators are less likely to break down. Mizuguchi hopes to join hands with corporations to commercialize the technology. (Abridged)
