The Chinese People’s Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries will hold a ceremony on Sept. 8 at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing to commemorate the 45th anniversary of the normalization of Japan-China diplomatic relations, it was learned on Aug. 23 from several sources close to Japan-China relations.

In 2012, the 40th anniversary of the normalization of diplomatic ties, China cancelled the commemorative ceremony at the last minute in protest against the Japanese government’s nationalization of the Senkaku Islands in Okinawa. This will be the first ceremony to be held in 10 years.

Yohei Kono, former House of Representatives speaker and president of the Japanese Association for the Promotion of International Trade; Takeshi Noda, former internal affairs minister and chairman of the Japan-China Society; and other representatives of Japan-China friendship groups plan to attend the ceremony.
