Ex-residents to stay overnight in Northern Territories

The Japanese and Russian governments are finalizing a plan to let Japanese former residents of the Etorofu and Kunashiri islands in the northern territories visit graves by air on Sept. 23 and stay overnight. The visit had originally been scheduled a one-day trip in June, but was cancelled due to bad weather. The rescheduled visit will allow ex-residents to stay overnight at the Japan-Russian friendship house, an accommodation facility on Kunashiri Island. Tokyo and Moscow are also planning to allow former residents to visit the sites of the houses where they were born.
