With the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) reviewing its Basic Energy Plan, Japan Business Federation (Keidanren) Chairman Sadayuki Sakakibara noted at a press conference held in Sendai on Sept. 6 that “most important of all is to pursue the ‘best-mix’ combination of energy for optimal use.” He called on the government to continue to position nuclear power as an important energy source. “We must think about renovation or new construction (of nuclear power plants),” he stressed. Keidanren will finalize a proposal on the review of the Basic Energy Plan within the year.
