TOKYO — Japan plans to host an international conference in November to support Iraq’s recovery as Islamic State militants have been pushed into a corner in the country, government sources said Saturday.Participants at the parley in Tokyo will likely discuss ways to promote weapon collection and job training in the war-torn country as part of efforts to stabilize the Middle East, they said.

The Japanese government is asking Iraqi Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi to join the conference, which will likely be co-hosted by the United Nations, the World Bank and the Iraqi government, the sources said.

The Iraqi government declared victory over Islamic State in Mosul in July, more than three years after the militant group seized the northern Iraqi city.

Japan judged the environment is now ready to discuss Iraqi reconstruction after the recapture of Mosul from IS. Tokyo also aims to take the lead in financial aid to help the country rebuild itself.
