On Sept. 26, the Metropolitan Police Department conduced an anti-terror drill by the Sumida River in Tokyo’s Koto Ward under the scenario of a terrorist attack along Tokyo bay, which will host many games during the Tokyo Olympic and Paralympic Games in 2020.
The drill was held under the scenario that a bomb was exploded on Kuramaebashi Bridge over the Sumida River. Jet ski bikes and patrol boats were immediately dispatched to the scene, and divers rescued people who fell in the river. The drill also included rescuing people who were keeping afloat on the river by using plastic bottles and plastic garbage bags as a measure to step up preparedness against natural disasters.
