Abe expresses hope that LDP Vice-President Komura will continue in post

Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) Vice-President Masahiko Komura, who has played a central role in the constitutional amendment debate within the party, [recently announced he will not seek reelection in the upcoming Lower House poll]. During the recording of a TV Asahi news program on Oct. 11, Prime Minister Shinzo Abe said, “Komura can serve as party vice-president even if he is not a Diet member,” thus expressing his hope that Komura will remain in his post after retiring. Komura has also expressed his desire to continue to be involved in the constitutional amendment debate.
