According to Yomiuri Shimbun’s poll on 114 hotly contested single-seat districts (Oct. 17-19), 33% of respondents will vote for the Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) proportional representation ticket, remaining basically unchanged from an earlier poll (Oct. 10-11). The LDP enjoys support from all age brackets. This support rate translates into the LDP winning around 60 of the 176 proportional representation seats, making it the leading party in this segment.
Among the opposition parties, the Constitutional Democratic Party of Japan (CDPJ) has 17% support (up from 14% in the previous poll), overtaking the 13% (down from 16%) of the Kibo no To [Party of Hope]. The CDPJ appears to be establishing itself as the recipient of votes critical of the administration.
