Okinawa Times wrote that the Defense Ministry’s Okinawa bureau submitted to the Okinawa Prefectural Government on Thursday a request for a permit to move coral designated an endangered species from the FRF construction site off Henoko to other areas. The coral, which is on the Environment Ministry’s “red list” of endangered marine species, was found by the bureau during a marine survey in September. The Okinawa governor is expected to make a decision on whether to approve the request within two weeks. The paper wrote that the governor will be forced to make a difficult choice because he will likely will be blamed for being negative about environmental protection if he turns down the request and criticized for condoning the FRF construction if he grants the permit.
