New South Korean Ambassador to Japan, Lee Su Hoon, 62, arrived at Haneda Airport on a commercial flight on the morning of Oct. 31.
He told reporters at the airport: “There has been a difficult period for the ROK-Japan relationship in recent years. I would like to improve this relationship in order to contribute to peace in the region.”
Lee is a scholar of international politics who was a professor at Kyungnam University. He is known to be an adviser to President Moon Jae-in on foreign and security policies.
He stressed that with regard to the comfort women and other history issues, “President Moon instructed me to make efforts to prevent these issues from impeding the bilateral relationship.”
