The government has decided to appoint former Minister of Agriculture, Forestry, and Fisheries Koya Nishikawa, 74, who lost his Diet seat in the recent House of Representatives election, as special adviser to the cabinet responsible for agriculture and trade policy. His formal appointment papers are expected to be issued on Nov. 8.
Nishikawa is known as an expert on agricultural administration. He was head of the Liberal Democratic Party committee on TPP measures. He said: “I will continue to do my best for the development of Japan’s agriculture, forestry, and fisheries.”
