Komeito leader pessimistic about ruling party talks on constitutional amendment

At a press conference on Nov. 7, Komeito leader Natsuo Yamaguchi took a negative stance on talks with the Liberal Democratic Party about constitutional amendment, saying that the recent coalition agreement says the ruling parties “will promote deliberations at the Diet’s Commissions on the Constitution.” “This is not premised on talks between the ruling parties,” he continued. “There has been no change in Komeito’s handling of the matter. We will monitor the LDP’s deliberations and take care not to interfere in their discussions.”
