NHK’s “Close-up Gendai +” reported that citizens’ marathons are becoming increasingly popular in Japan, saying that there are now thousands of these events held across Japan throughout the year. The program said some of them even offer free “wagyu” steak, desserts, and even Tiffany necklaces to attract runners, while others that fail to attract runners or volunteers have been cancelled.
