Taketoyo Toguchi, a Nago city assembly member, met with Chief Cabinet Secretary Yoshihide Suga at the Prime Minister’s Office on Nov. 14 to ask for support for his candidacy for the Nago mayoral election slated to be held in February 2018. At the press conference, Suga noted that he told Toguchi that “we will support you by working closely with the prefectural chapter (of the Liberal Democratic Party).”

At the LDP headquarters, Toguchi also met with LDP General Council Chairman Wataru Takeshita, Election Strategy Committee Chairman Ryu Shionoya and Acting Secretary-General Motoo Hayashi and told them he plans to open an office on Nov. 17 to prepare for the election. He reportedly secured the backing of the party’s executive members. (Abridged)
