Okinawa to seek SOFA revision

Saturday morning’s Okinawa Times reported that the Okinawa prefectural government and a number of municipal governments in Okinawa officially decided on Friday to press the Japanese and U.S. governments to amend the SOFA so as to state that the Japanese side will be given investigative jurisdiction over off-base incidents and accidents involving U.S. military personnel. Okinawa officials will visit Tokyo in mid-December for meetings with GOJ and U.S. officials to call for a major change in the statute governing U.S. service members.
