Gist of PM Abe’s comments on North Korea’s missile launch

Judging from the flight (of the ballistic missile launched by North Korea), it is possible that this was an ICBM. The government was completely aware of the missile’s movements and had made full preparations for crisis management. Such an outrageous act is absolutely unacceptable. A strong protest has been lodged with North Korea.

We will request an emergency meeting of the UN Security Council. It is necessary for the international community to unite and impose sanctions thoroughly. Japan will not bow to any act of provocation and will apply maximum pressure (on North Korea). We will maintain a high level of vigilance under the Japan-U.S. alliance to protect the people’s lives and peaceful living to the end.
