On Dec. 7, Hilary Dauer from the U.S. Consulate General in Naha, Okinawa Prefecture, paid a courtesy call on Miyakojima Mayor Toshihiko Shimoji at the city office in Hirara. During the meeting, he told the mayor that he toured an underground dam facility, a natural gas facility and other sites. “Miyakojima is such a beautiful place,” he said. Mayor Shimoji responded that “we are grateful for the books donated by the Consulate General.” Dauer arrived at his current post in August 2017 to oversee political, military and economic affairs. During his visit to Miyakojima, he toured the Kaihokan marine activity facility, an underground dam facility, a natural gas proving site and facilities that promote environmental conservation. On Dec. 8, he is scheduled to visit the office of Miyako Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
