Komeito chief stresses need for dialogue with North Korea

Komeito leader Natsuo Yamaguchi discussed the North Korea nuclear and missile issues at a New Year’s executive meeting held at the party headquarters on Jan. 4. “This will be a year in which our cooperation and wisdom will be tested with regard to strengthening pressure through UN sanctions resolutions and bringing about a peaceful solution through dialogue in the end,” he said, indicating the need to cooperate with concerned nations to work toward a peaceful solution.

Yamaguchi also pointed out that “relations with the East Asian countries must be strengthened” in order to resolve the North Korea issues. He called for holding the Japan-China-ROK summit in Japan at an early date and realizing reciprocal visits by Prime Minister Shinzo Abe and Chinese President Xi Jinping.
