Okinawa Governor Takeshi Onaga will visit Guam on Jan. 10-13 to tour sites for the relocation of U.S. Marines stationed in Okinawa.

Onaga plans to visit Andersen Air Force Base and other U.S. military facilities and is also scheduled to meet with Guam Governor Eddie Calvo. During the meeting, he will explain the importance of the Guam relocation plan, which is expected to downsize the U.S. military presence in Okinawa, and seek Calvo’s understanding. This will be the first time for Onaga to visit Guam since he became governor.

Tokyo and Washington agreed in 2012 to transfer about 4,000 of the 19,000 U.S. Marines in Okinawa to Guam and about 5,000 to Hawaii and elsewhere.
