RIYADH – Japanese and Saudi companies have exchanged six sets of notes on cooperation in electric vehicles, animator training and other areas during a business forum in the Saudi Arabian capital.

The forum, which started Sunday, brought together more than 300 people, including officials from manufacturers Toyota Motor Corp., Nippon Steel & Sumitomo Metal Corp. and Hitachi Ltd., as well as entertainment, trading and financial companies.

Notes were exchanged on electric vehicle demonstration tests between Saudi Electricity Co. and a Japanese group made up of Tokyo Electric Power Company Holdings Inc., Nissan Motor Co. and electrical equipment maker Takaoka Toko Co.

The Japan Cooperation Center for the Middle East, headed by Hitachi Chairman Hiroaki Nakanishi, will cooperate with the Saudi General Commission for Audiovisual Media so that animator education can be added to Saudi Arabia’s vocational training program.

Fujifilm Corp. will work with the Saudi government sports agency to launch a health checkup facility for women.

Saudi Arabia is trying to change its economic structure from relying so heavily on oil. Last March, Prime Minister Shinzo Abe and the Saudi government agreed on a long-term bilateral economic cooperation plan to support the reform.

The plan calls for each nation to set up a base to implement the plan in the other country. Japan opened its base in Riyadh on Sunday.
