With regards to the agreement that Japan and South Korea sealed in 2015 to confirm the final settlement of the comfort women issue involving the former Japanese military, Chief Cabinet Secretary Yoshihide Suga acknowledged in a Jan. 17 press conference that “the U.S. has been consistently supportive of the deal.” U.S. Secretary of State Rex Tillerson noted at a press conference held in Canada that “many more things must be done.” Suga stressed that “Secretary Tillerson indicated clear support for the agreement when he visited Japan in March last year.”
