The Constitutional Democratic Party of Japan (CDPJ) decided at a meeting of its standing officers’ council on Jan. 23 that the party will support incumbent Mayor Susumu Inamine, 72, in the Nago mayoral election. Official campaigning for this election starts on Jan. 28 and voting will take place on Feb. 4. The plan to relocate the Futenma Air Station (in Ginowan City, Okinawa) to Henoko, Nago City will be the point of contention.

The meeting also decided to form a committee in the party to reexamine the Henoko relocation plan.
