At the Liaison Meeting of the Government and Ruling Parties on Feb. 15, Prime Minister Shinzo Abe spoke of his contact in Pyeongchang with Kim Yong Nam, president of the Presidium of the Supreme People’s Assembly of North Korea. Abe stressed the significance of the contact he had with Kim, saying “Creating an opportunity to speak with North Korea was necessary for Japan. The United States also understands this.”
