Okinawa Times and Rykyu Shimpo wrote that in response to the incident in which a part fell from a Futenma-based Osprey and washed up on the shore of Ikei Island in Okinawa, the city assembly of Ginowan unanimously adopted on Monday a protest resolution and written statement. According to the two Okinawa papers, the assembly called for an immediate halt to MCAS Futenma operations, the early closure and return of the base, and a drastic review of the Status of Forces Agreement. The assembly also reportedly requested that the cause of the incident be determined and measures to prevent a recurrence be taken. Ryukyu Shimpo wrote that the resolution is addressed to the U.S. Ambassador, the Okinawa Area Coordinator, and others, while the written statement is addressed to the prime minister, the defense minister, and others.
