Hiroshima, Nagasaki mayors ask Obama to visit Nagasaki

Nagasaki Mayor Tomihisa Taue and Hiroshima Mayor Kazumi Matsui sent a joint letter on March 8 to former U.S. President Barack Obama, who is coming to Japan, to invite him to visit Nagasaki City.

The letter stated that leaders of many countries have come to visit the atomic-bombed cities after Obama’s Hiroshima visit, and “the profound impact of the Hiroshima visit on the world and the president’s great courage in making this visit can really be felt.” It invited Obama to visit Nagasaki during his upcoming visit to Japan, asking him to convey a message to the world that, “Nagasaki should be the last atomic-bombed city.”
