Tokyo, April 3 (Jiji Press)–Goshi Hosono of the Party of Hope said Tuesday that he will not join a new opposition force proposed by the Democratic Party.
The Constitutional Democratic Party of Japan also officially rejected the DP’s call for creating a new party.
Hosono, former environment minister and a founding member of the Party of Hope, told reporters that he does not want to “distort” his belief as a politician and policies for an election.
At a meeting of party secretaries-general, the CDPJ turned down the DP request in a written response saying that CDPJ supporters will never appreciate the creation of a new party because it will result in changes in the party’s ideology and policies.
Even if a new party comes into being, it will be difficult to become the No. 1 opposition force, pundits said, pointing out that House of Representatives lawmakers of the DP are also reluctant to join hands with the Party of Hope.
