The draft outline of the cybersecurity strategy that the government is currently revising was released on April 3. It calls for building a “cybersecurity ecosystem” (tentative name) through collaboration between industry, government, and the academia to deal with increasingly sophisticated cyberattacks.

The government will present this draft to the meeting of the cybersecurity headquarters on April 4.

With North Korea and other countries in mind, the document points out, “Cyber threats are becoming increasingly serious and sophisticated, with cases of suspected state involvement.” Looking ahead to the Tokyo Olympic and Paralympic Games, the outline emphasizes the importance of the “capability to deter and defend against cyberattacks and to accurately assess the situation.”

The current strategy was drawn up in 2015. The government plans to draft the next strategy by this summer.
