Governor Takeshi Onaga was admitted to a hospital in Naha City for a check-up, Ryukyu Shimpo learned on April 5. According to an informed source, changes in his physical condition, such as weight loss, have been observed, so he decided to get a check-up at a hospital as a precautionary measure. He will reportedly be released on April 6.

According to this informed source, Onaga did not attend a party of senior Okinawa prefectural government officials on the evening of April 5 to welcome the new department chiefs.

In 2006, when he was mayor of Naha City, Onaga was found to have early gastric cancer, for which he was hospitalized and underwent surgery. He was incapacitated for about a month.
