Okinawa Vice Governor Kiichiro Jahana visited Chief Cabinet Secretary Yoshihide Suga at the office of the Prime Minister on April 5. The vice governor called on the central government to give consideration to the noise generated by the F-35 stealth fighter jets that have been temporarily deployed to the U.S. military’s Kadena Air Base, which straddles the town of Kadena and other municipalities. Suga replied by saying, “We must address the issue properly.”

Deputy Chief Cabinet Secretary Kazuhiro Sugita also attended the meeting. Sugita and Jahana agreed to promptly hold a working level meeting of the “Council for Promoting the Mitigation of the Impact of MCAS Futenma on Okinawa,” which is striving for the early termination of operations at the U.S. military’s Futenma air station in Ginowan, Okinawa.
