Prime Minister Shinzo Abe met with Japanese Communist Party (JCP) Chairman Kazuo Shii at the Diet on April 9.
Shii called for the peaceful resolution of the North Korea issues through dialogue. He said: “It is important to take advantage of this situation where North Korea is seeking dialogue to promote cooperation among Japan, the U.S., the ROK, China, and Russia to work for a comprehensive solution to all issues, including the abductions.”
Abe replied: “Our basic position is to seek a solution through diplomatic means. We will consider this matter seriously.”
This was the first time that Abe has received a direct request from the JCP on foreign policy issues.
